How HE got created...

One day in the Garden of Eden, Eve calls out to God.... "Lord, I have a problem."

"What's the problem, Eve?"

"I know that you created me and provided this beautiful garden and all these wonderful animals, as well as that hilarious comedic snake, but I'm just not happy."

"And why is that Eve?"

'Lord, I am lonely and I'm sick to death of these apples."

"Well Eve, in that case I have a solution: I shall create a man for you."

"Man? What is that Lord?"

"A flawed creature with many bad traits. He'll cheat and be vain; all in all, he'll give you a hard time. But he'll be bigger, faster, and will like to hunt and kill things. He will look silly when he is aroused, but since you've been complaining, I'll create him in such a way that he will satisfy your physical needs. He will be witless and will revel in childish things like fighting and kicking a ball about. He won't be too smart, so he will also need your advice to think properly."

"Sounds great," Eve, with ironically raised eyebrows,"but what's the catch, Lord?"

"Well...you can have him on one condition."

"And what's that Lord?"

"As I said, he'll be proud, arrogant and self-admiring... so you'll have to let him believe that I made him first. And it will have to be our little secret...
you know...woman to woman."

Me Loves This!

When you’re suffering from sore throat, an aching back, and swollen foot due to your personal definition of accident-prone, nothing beats these ailments (which I all have at the same time) than a little sweetness (literally and figuratively) from the one you love.

My Honey surprised me with these tooth-aching and heart-warming treats to lessen the body pain.

Sourcream oatmeal cake, carrot and honey cake, and a sliver of apple pie. Yum!

It feels fuzzy inside when somebody loves you, don’t you think?

Bag Lady Kuno

Sisu (sih-shoo) – n. Finnish word that describes a combination of special strength, courage, and determination that is held in reserve for moments of adversity or hard times.

*****

Today, I mourn the loss of a beloved member of my family. A member of my family of bags. I finally had the courage to surrender the only (so far) luxury bag that I ever owned, my Ellipse Louis Vuitton backpack, to my sister.

I have to accept the fact that our paths were not meant to cross in the first place: I just pushed my luck thinking that we looked good together.

But how, oh why oh why, did I think so? You were a small bag, my kikay kit filled the majority of you. You were a backpack, a mini one at that. And you, you don’t even fall in the category of “flauntable” LV bags!

Still, I mourn your demise from my family. I will miss you hard, leather contour for your bottom; those fine, elegant stitches that can only be achieved from the highest quality of sewing machinery; the two-letter monogram that can only signify quality and prestige; the smell of leather when I slip open the zipper and reveal the golden-yellow cow-hide lining inside. You actually made me feel like a complete woman.

Ellipse, I thank you for all times you have been with me, through countless meetings and gimmicks. You never failed to bring a smile to my lips when people tell me that you are such a beautiful baby; when someone notices that you are NOT a knock-off; when they ask me for times on how to maintain a high-maintenance goddess like you.

I cry inside, I feel pain. But then again, my sister (and her needs) suits you more. You will always be special, still owning the highest pedestal among my family of bags. You are still the queen…

Until I get me an LV Streamer Bag or an LV Lockit.

Or a Birkin.

*****

Bags and purses that I often use:

My current favorite purse: Celine Paris caramel purse which can go from daytime office to nightime affairs!

My American Studios keeper where I put important documents.

My Babila bag I use for meetings. I love its Vuitton feel.

Issacs Pour Le Femme purse made from hard leather.

My ever reliable Puma gym bag which I use as an everydaybag. Notice how badly battered it is.

Mini horse-saddle leather purse I use when go for errands.

Nike Stella McCartney edition purple bag my sister got me from Singapore. I love that it can easily turn from an everyday bag to a daypack.

My "Channel Wannabe" Mini Black Purse usually reserved for a night-out. Love, love!

I haven't used this but I feel happy just by looking at it. An all-nighter purse!

So what’s with me and bags? Well, I just feel giddy when I see an amazing find!

Daddy Long Legs

I had a dream.

I woke up with longer legs….

*****

My ultimate fascination for having longer legs might stem from the obvious fact that I have stubs as a poor alternate from living a far-fetched ambition. I know that my genes will fail me when I was young enough to realize that both my parents, though not blessedly short, still lack the legs that go on forever.

So my quest for fulfilling the thirst to get the requirement of being half-a-model, I unconsciously came to admire people possessing THE legs.

My first highschool crush (who shall and will always remain nameless) had this pair. I remember coming home from school one day when I chanced upon him and his legs. I was talking, walking, looking down when a gust of wind suddenly swept from my back. Like a vision coming out from nowhere, I was suddenly gazing down at a pair of black shoes. My eyes started to travel up along the contours of black pants, each pair of cloth for legs seemed to go on and on. I believe it took my eyes a minute to reach his face.

I was smittened for the fact that I’m admiring something that I cannot have.

A few weeks back I was bitten by the Koreanovela bug. I was suddenly watching Boys Over Flowers wherein Lee Min Ho (the Korean DaoMing Se counterpart) owns this anatomical pair that I long for. It has been a long time since I have seen someone having THE legs and I was instantly hooked. As of last count, I’m on my fifth leg of repeat-watching this Koreanovela. Same old routine, I’m always focused on the legs, though it doesn’t hurt that it has a very kilig storyline.

In resolution to this entry and my upcoming demise in the 20s age range (hey, I still have two years mind you) I promise myself that I will devote a major part of my energy and resources to having long(er) legs; the scissor legs of Heidi Klum; the major asset of Kimora Lee Simmons and Wilma Doesnt; the thing that makes me wants to see Lee Min Ho everytime I watch Boys Over Flowers; THE LEGS.

Maybe it be going back to swimming; learning how to properly bike, rappelling my way down a steep and rocky mountain, or walking from my house to UP (roughly around 5km), I will and I must be called not only Boobsiedaisy but also Legsiedaisy! (No, Logsiedaisy jokes accepted).

So watch me get model-ready.

….

And do pass that tub of chocolate ice cream please

Ode to My Hypocrisy

I’m starting this entry with an Ode to My Hypocrisy. Yes, I’m a total hypocrite (and I know one who will be reading this will be rolling her eyes and saying “Hell yeah!”) but to curb any brewing ideas (first-hand experience or otherwise), this confession is totally different from a personality or character basis.

Last Monday, after all the bank errands, which took me quite a while since it was the first working day of the New Year, I passed-by the National Bookstore Superbranch in Cubao. This has been my secret haven for marked-down books which can actually be priced-off at least 95%. I recently bought my BUDDHA DA book by Anna Donovan at P30 in absolutely mint condition, the pages looked like they haven’t seen the gory of coarse fingers and felt the acidity of saliva to save difficulty from page-turning. The actual price of this book when I saw it in Powerbooks a couple of years back was around P400++. Being uber cost-efficient (aka makunat), I decided then to defer from buying.

Books roughly priced around P10 and P15 are so in-demand that book shelves resemble remnants of a shopping raid when LV did a 70% off at Macau. P30 books were packed with chick-lit that are regularly priced at around P300-P600. Hardbounds fetch from P20- P50. If you are lucky enough, you may chance upon a reference or business within the same price range.

What shocked me was not the price (believe me, I couldn’t have been happier seeing my P 100 go to 3-4 books!) but the devastation these people call BOOK ARRANGEMENT plaguing the shelves of printed intellect. Que horror! How can anyone, anyone, anyone, anyone think of just dumping those books there without actually giving importance to the time spent inspiring, writing, researching, drafting, researching, writing, crying, giving-up, sulking, inspiring and finalizing years and years of a dream, a vision being shaped in a form of a book? Now tell me?!

And with those prices to boot?! I now finally found where my fear of actually writing a book stems from: that the day would come when I am browsing along the shelves of bookstore to find the book that I HAD WRITTEN on a discounted, no, on a bargain rate that is similar to that of a bottle of soy sauce. That would just push me to the brink of a nervous breakdown.

But then again, I started this entry with an Ode to My Hypocrisy. And with that, I honestly have to confess that one of greatest joys of my life is seeing hard earned money going to a fruitful investment: buying bargain books. Nothing will make my smile brighter than finding a bunch of books, to be shelved, waiting for the right person to put them back into place.

Yes, I am a Hypocrite. And I’ll just deal with the finding-my-on-book-on-bargain later. Never judge the book by its cover ika nga, pardon the pun.

Alive and Kicking and Screaming (my head off)

TRIVIA: During a focused vigil on local boobtube news, a survey found that a typical middle-class Filipino household has an average of two (2) desktop computers and one (1) laptop or netbook.

*****
This day and age of Information Technology specifically broadband, my personal (and lineary diabolical) survey found that 2009 was a downtime for my IT usage. I was on the average of around 2-3 times weekly use, batting a 4-5 hour use per session. And how, you ask, did I come up with this “mathematically accurate and scientifically calculated output”? Here are some main point rundowns:

1) TOTAL CONCEPT PAPER OUTPUTS: 1. Most of the papers I made last year were either a rehash of an old one or a piece by piece assembly of various concepts from former papers.

2) Though I have constantly been receiving invites to join FACEBOOK since 2007, I only succumbed to the fad just August of 2009. Even my Friendster account had suffered from my IT drought since I have accessed the latter social networking site only once a month. (I still feel guilty that I am now a complete Friendster snob: I think I last logged-in three or four months ago).

3) I actually have to Google the exact URLs of perezhilton.com and postsecret.blogspot.com: two of my guilty pleasures.

4) I discovered last September what TWITTER and a TWEET actually meant in the e-world.

5) Towards the end of November, I found out how to acquire a dotcom name, get a free web-host using that dotcom name and actually polish my Photoshop skills along the way.

So, as a part of my grand plans (wow) for 2010, I’ll be more tech-savvy and net-usee friendly. I promise not to exit a website if loading takes too long. I promise to learn an advanced software.

And as an indication of the new web-trotter me, I’ll be reviving my blog, this blog, which has been left in conscious neglect for over a year. I actually contemplated on starting a new one, but what the heck, this revival calls for a more sentimental memento!

Guys (hahaha, hopefully you’re still there) read me and weep…

ME
IS
BACK!

A Year of Great Partnerships and Good Harvests!

I AM THE UNIVERSE

I decided to write this as a symbol to welcome my impending (or passed) mid-life crisis. Yes, I just equated my 2008 laziness to mid-life crisis and without something special to do, this would be the best excuse to define so.

The year is not yet over and I am contemplating next year's resolution. But still, I believe that I will still own 2008.

Friends got married (some I was invited, others I just pretended they don't know my mobile number due to a three-time change), others welcomed Motherhood, one decided to reject one, job transfers abroad for a sister and a cousin, travels, tears, smiles, burden, beach, ain't life a bitch?!

Should I even worry that I'm reaching 28 and I have yet to define what I want to do and more importantly, who I am?

I want to be a writer and publish my own book.

I want to own a sewing machine and start my craving to transform any piece of clothing to a major fashion fad.

I want to travel. More.

No marriage for me. I love kids but I'm just contented to baby-sitting. Life for me will just be a constant surprise and adventure.

I just found out I have a knack in Math, in art design, and a minor techie-techihan.

But will I find contentment if I will be able to discover who I am? Will I be disappointed? Happy, perhaps? No more worries and insomiac nights?

Still, I will own 2008.

Bahala kayo jan.

SAVE OUR MOUNTAIN!

NEGRESES ASKED TO UNITE TO SAVE MT. KANLAON

Manila Hotel, Manila --- The call for all Negrenses, whether in the Negros Island, Manila, or any other parts of the world to unite might be one of the solutions to stop PNOC-EDC from cutting down more trees in the buffer zone of Mt. Kanlaon. This is the plea of Don Flordeliza, Greenwatch Philippines Chairman and Task Force Save Mt. Kanlaon Representative Manila Chapter.

The desperate battlecry of Flordeliza is one of the last recourse to stop the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in doing more harm to the buffer zone and ecosystem of Mt. Kanlaon National Park (MKNP).

"This is not my fight alone. This is not the fight of Negreses in Negros. This is the fight of all Negrenses because what EDC is doing is not only unconstitutional but also inhuman! This is against the human rights of our children to see a better future," Flordeliza said.

1,000 Trees Down

As of the present time, nearly 1,000 trees have been chopped to pave the way for geothermal exploration in the area, informed by Flordeliza. Two point seven kilometers of road had also been paved to make way for big machineries to enter the buffer zone and continue the destruction, he added.

Simultaneously, a mass action protest was held by various groups and environmentalists in Bacolod City as the protesters declare August 11 as the Save Mt. Kanlaon Day. The Green Alert organization also staged a "wake" in front of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to "mourn the death" of the cut trees in the buffer zone.

"Inuubos na ang biodiversity! Di dapat pumayag lawyers ng mga NGOs. Judgement by default dapat!" exclaimed Dr. Roger Birosel of NGOs for Integrated Protected Areas Inc. (NIPA) and Earth Savers Movement during the press conference.

The Lopez-owned EDC, formerly PNOC, are conducting geothermal explorations in the buffer zone on Mt. Kanlaon. "One hundred sixty nine hectares with 4,213 trees will be victimized for this useless search of supposedly geothermal power that is not even adequate," explained Flordeliza. Based on reports gathered by Flordeliza, only 4-5 megawatt power is available in the Mt. Kanlaon area instead of the expected 40 megawatt. This, he pointed, would not justify the continued hunt for the renewable energy on the mountain's buffer zone.

"We planted almost 1 million trees!"

In a press statement released by EDC signed by its president Paul Aquino, they explained that the cutting of trees is not for profit's sake but to look for possible sources of power to supply the Negros Island. EDC reportedly "promised" to prevent power shortage that may incur in 2010 in the island.

The EDC, even before its turn-over from the government as a private corporation, had planted around 500,000 trees in replacement to trees they chop during explorations, according to the press statement.

"Even if they (EDC) plant 100 million trees, it will never be the same. It cannot be compared to even just 100 hundred trees living for 100 years! They will be killing valuable biodiversity," espoused Flordeliza during the press conference. "Please lang, don't cut trees because you have the money to replace them. This is a very wrong and poor logic," he added.

Ding Reyes, host of Kamayan Para sa Kalikasan, added that due to the threat of global warming, weather forecasting will possibly become unreliable in the future. Flash floods will be common and the lag time between the growing of seedlings into mature trees versus the capacity of mature trees (that will be cut) to seep rain water will be too long, he explained.

Delaying Tactics

Last July 24, the Task Force Save Mt. Kanlaon filed a case against EDC and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Lito Atienza over the geothermal exploration. An amended case for a Temporary Restraining Order was refiled on July 31, including in the case Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes, Negros Occidental Governor Isidro Zayco, Bago City Mayor Ramon Torres and Murcia Mayor Esteban Coscolluela, and the natural park's Protected Areas Management Board (PAMB).

The hearing on the petition was supposedly on August 12 but was now moved to September 5. TRO was not discussed due to "procedural deterrence", claimed by DOE and PAMB.

"At this rate, do we have anything more to save? EDC cuts trees at alarming rate of 500 trees per week. By September 5, we may only have less than 500 left," Flordeliza noted.

A source who wished to be unnamed claimed that the judge for case is being bribed to delay the court proceedings against EDC. "This is to be expected since the enemy has the money to spare. Of course what the Lopezes want the Lopezes gets," the source added.

A follow-up inquiry was also made on the request for a Senate Inquiry by Senator Pia Cayetano on the issue. But the Atty. Karen Mae Sarinas, legal counsel, said that Sen. Cayetano cannot just call EDC and say stop the exploration since everything has to be done legally.

"The MKNP buffer zone is a protected area and could not be used for exploratory purposes unless decided upon by an Act of Congress. There was no Act of Congress. Why should EDC be allowed to continue the cutting of trees when what they are doing is illegal? It's like killing a person in broad daylight but the murderer still could not be captured unless there is a warrant of arrest," the source explained.

Wind Farm and Ethanol Farm

Greenwatch Philippines is asking EDC for a moratorium of 15 months to explore other sources of renewable energy that has less damage to the environment. This MKNP geothermal exploration had been on operation for more than 15 years.

Several investors are also eyeing the Negros island for setting up wind farms since Negros is part of the major wind path of the Philippines. Flordeliza added that around 90-120 megawatt power can be produced when Iloilo and Negros wind power will be combined. That is more than enough to power the island.

Neal Cruz, broadsheet columnist and host of the Kapihan sa Manila, suggested the use ethanol as an alternative to the use of oil. The Negros island was once the heart of the sugar cane industry in the Philippines and ethanol can be produced from sugar cane.

Flordeliza mentioned that some sugar farmers can already produce as much as 2megawatt energy from ethanol and are selling them to power companies.

The potential of the ethanol farm is also highly endorsed as another source of power. Foreign investors are actually targeting Zambales for several prototype ethanol farms in the country.

Calling Kilos Bayan

Assistance from Kilos Bayan, an advocacy group headed by former Senator Jovito Salonga, may also be explored by Greenwatch Philippines and Task Force Save Mt. Kanlaon.

Salonga, carrying the banner of Kilos Bayan, filed a court case against the then Aquino government to cease converting the Marikina Water Shed Reservation as a garbage dump. The area was part of the protected areas of the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Law authored by fomer Senator Heherson Alvarez. Salonga and Kilos Bayan won the case.

"We need all the help we can. We call all Negrenses to unite to save our beloved Mt. Kanlaon. We ask our legislators and senators to stop this transgression of EDC. We call for responsible media reporting because we feel we don't get enough coverage to make more people aware of this dangerous situation. We ask the help of Kilos Bayan to stop this illegal act of the Lopezes. Mt. Kanlaon, our mountain, is dying. Don't let more people die due to this geothermal catastrophe!" cried Flordeliza.

Let us Help SAVE MT. KANLAON

ANOTHER LOPEZ COMPANY IN HOTSEAT OVER GEOTHERMAL
The amended TRO filed last Thursday by the volunteer counsels of Save Mt. Kanlaon Coalition, Atty. Andrea Si and Atty. Andres Hagad, did not stop the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) of the Lopezes from cutting down trees in the buffer zone of Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park (MKNP), Negros Occidental.

As of July 28, 2008, 576 trees were reportedly cut down by EDC based on the account of Delia Locsin of the coalition. The geothermal development project will cover 169 hectares of the buffer zone of MKNP with more than 4,000 trees threatened to be chopped.

Don Flordeliza of Green Watch Philippines said that an average of 500 trees will be cut weekly leaving the supporters of Save Mt. Kanlaon in grave urgency to have the amended TRO approved. If the court decision will take more than one month, the buffer zone will be almost 80% denuded, Flordeliza pointed.

Years and Years of Exploration
Then a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) under the name PNOC, it started its exploration for sources of geothermal energy in the MKNP in 1987.

Instead of the targeted 40 megawatt geothermal power needed to justify for further search of the alternative energy, PNOC only acquired around 4-5 megawatts in MKNP using around P8 million of taxpayers money based on a report by the Freedom from Debt Coalition- Negros (FDC). Though Mt. Kanlaon is a volcano, the group noted that up until now the exploration still continues even without plausible proof that there is sufficient geothermal power in the area to supply the Negros island.

Based on the website of EDC by the Lopez-owned First General Corp., the corporation borrowed $68.5 million from Japan Bank for International Cooperation to purchase PNOC. The FDC-Negros report revealed that EDC is working out several foreign and local loans to buy-out other GOCC power utilities.

Effects of the Exploration
During the first press conference organized by Green Watch Philippines last August 4, 2008, farmer-supporters of the Save Mt. Kanlaon Coalition expressed their sentiments of the possible consequences should the cutting down of trees in the buffer zone persists.

Enrique Tayo, a farmer from Negros, mentioned via video-conferencing that they are now experiencing massive flash floods and erosions. Some Negrense farmers in the Mt. Kanlaon area are resorting to the use of chemicals in the farming process since output production is low through organic farming. Tayo explained that a well-heeled irrigation system normally aids organic farming however without the trees there would be major irrigation issues. There are only a few trees left holding the earth in MKNP tapos puputulin pa, he added.

Mara Pardo de Tavera, a supporter-environmentalist and the President of the Organic Producers and Traders Association (OPTA) proposed to have the people living near MKNP tested by doctors to check for signs of health problems related to the geothermal exploration. Arsenic poisoning is usually associated in this type of energy exploration.

"We are now starting to feel the rebound of this EDC crime. We challenge the Lopezes, who by the way are also Ilonggos, and EDC officials who decided on this project, to actually live in the area so they can have a first-hand experience of all the effects of this so-called geothermal exploration," a member of Save Mt. Kanlaon Coalition denounced.

Call for Senate Inquiry
Senator Pia Cayetano, chairperson of the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, wrote to Mr. Paul Aquino, EDC President and Chief Executive Officer, concerning the exploration and development of the buffer zone pointing that "any geothermal exploration for or development of energy or mineral resources within MKNP shall not be allowed except by an Act of Congress."

The letter made a reference to RA 7586 or the National Integrated Area System Act (NIPAS Act) that buffer zones are "included in the individual protected area management plan that shall be prepared for each protected area to avoid or minimize harm to the protected area."

Senator Cayetano requested for the postponement of the exploration in the buffer zone until environmental issues and concerns can be answered.

A senate inquiry will be requested by Sen. Cayetano on the Mt. Kanlaon issue.

Negrenses Unite
The Catholic Lay Forum, Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement -Negros (PRRM), Freedom from Debt Coalition -Negros (FDC), LEAD Negros, DAWN, Soldiers of Ecology, Green Alert, students of St. Scholastica, among other supporters showed active and potent support to save the buffer zone of MKNP.

A campaign of wearing yellow ribbons in wrists and outfits, dressing up cars with yellow ribbons, and tying yellow ribbons around trees to show support to save Mt. Kanlaon is being eagerly supported by Negrenses, especially in Bacolod. Green Watch Philippines initiated the yellow ribbon campaign.

College students from Grupong Espading composed of visual artists, musicians, and local bands are holding support through campaigns for the environment in different schools and universities, mall tours, and various productions. An art exhibit on August 18 at the University of Negros Occidental -Recoletos (UNO-R) will be held with the theme of the effects of environmental degradation in Negros.

Circulation of signature sheets in churches and parishes, schools, and activity centers are being carried out to engage the whole of Negros in this plight to save Mt. Kanlaon added by Locsin.

Perhaps there is more to this geothermal exploration.
A resident living near MKNP said that tremors and earth shakes are felt almost every night by the community. This geothermal exploration can turn out not just a logging operation but might be a mining exploration as well, he added.

Tear-Jerker

Bata pa ako para magka-mid-life crisis. Or am I?

Dito Ba? O, Dito Ba?

Sabi ni Mang Pogs sa isang Peyups.com thread:

I've been to 6 companies in 4 Yrs. I get lots of "wow, grabe ah."

Pero remember that Employees EVALUATE their employers too. Basically, companies can't compete with others kaya iniiwanan sila. Maybe masmaganda nga yung pantry noong isa. Or better benefits, better boss, a real HR Department?

It may be a fact that some companies are really good sa services at products nila, pero the best measure of a company as an employee is how they treat their so-called "best assets."

Maraming factors talaga eh. Just like how companies sack employees dahil sa poor performance (or minsan pa nga illegal reasons), employees can leave companies na talagang inde kaya mag compete in terms of overall "the company to be in" category.

Salamat. Malapit na.

Salamat.
